Decomposition of large systems and independence structures.

- Abstract
- The paper is a pure survey with no proofs. To treat
effectively large information systems with uncertainty one has to
decompose them into meaningful and properly interrelated components.
This task can be done by the use of conditional independence structures.
We review this approach on the level of various uncertainty calculi
(probability theory, theory of ordinal conditional functions, theory
of belief functions, theory of relational databases,
possibility theory).
