Pictures from Erlangen Bruch

During the year 2004, I took pictures of the same piece of alder forest near Erlangen Tannenlohe. This is part of a small (few square kilometers) forest reserve where as an experiment, already for some 25 years or so, no forestry activities take place (in particular, no trees are cut). So far, the experiment is quite succesful, but to see really interesting results, it will have to be continued for at least 250 more years. We'll see. This was an unusually dry year, so the little brook that appears on the first pictures stays dry for the rest of the year. The fact that new buildings are being erected only a few meters outside the boundaries of the reserve probably does not help either. This looks like a nice place for birds, but strangely, I have never managed to see anything more interesting here than a pair of bullfinch in the breeding season. The place is surely botanically very interesting, with many species that do not occur in intensively managed forests. Here are the pictures.
