EUROPEAN RESEARCH CONSORTIUM FOR INFORMATICS AND MATHEMATICS
Purpose and Motivation of the Workshop
The "Statistical Techniques in Pattern Recognition" Workshop aims
to start a series of workshops in the "classical" area in which
a revival of interest can be noticed not only from researchers
in other branches of pattern recognition community but also from
other disciplines of mathematics and informatics.
The workshop aims to promote interaction
and collaboration not only among researchers working directly in
statistical pattern recognition but also among those specialized
in other fields using or developing statistical techniques. In
this relation, it is of particular interest to stimulate links
with many mathematical statisticians, theoreticians and
practitioners alike who work outside the pattern recognition
community at present.
Scientific Programme
The scientific programme will be mainly concentrated on the
theoretical and application contributions concerning the statistical
aspects of methods in the following fields:
Venue
The Workshop will be held at the
Institute of Information Theory and
Automation, Academy of Sciences of the
Czech Republic in Prague. The
institute is situated in the northern part of the city.
Prague
is an ancient and beautiful city on the Vltava river. Every historical epoch
has imprinted its marks on the city.
Fee
The registration fee is 250 US $. It includes workshop
proceedings, lunches, refreshment breaks and banquet. A reduced
student's fee will be applicable.

Information on Size and Style of Papers in Kybernetika journal
Selected papers presented at STIPR'97 will be published
in the special issue of Kybernetika journal.
Because of the maximum limit of the issue size, we have also to set the limit of 6 pages per author (in any case EVEN number of pages, i.e. not 5).
The Latex format style required by Kybernetika is prepared in the STIPR'97 directory where the following files can be found:
If somebody is unable to use the LaTeX style or has difficulties to ftp the formats, please, contact us.
As far as the figures are concerned, the editor wants them separately in the postscript format or encapsulated postscript (that is .ps or .eps), preferably in the size which should appear in the paper so that there is no need to enlarge it or reduce it.
We shall need from you:
We should like to inform you that according to our experiments, 6 pages of original papers in the workshop proceedings is a little bit more than 6 pages in Kybernetika format. Therefore, a litle reduction is generally required. In case of really serious difficultues, please, contact us.
The issue is to appear probably in next June (1998).
THE DEADLINE for your revised submission: 30 October 1997
In case of any querries, please contact either
Jiri Grim grim@utia.cas.cz
Pavel Pudil pudil@utia.cas.cz
Michal Haindl haindl@utia.cas.cz
Due to some forthcoming travels abroad, the safest option is to send the copies to all three of us (at least one should be here).
Publication
All papers (including posters) accepted for the Workshop will appear
in the Workshop proceedings (provided at least one of authors
will present it). Selected papers will be published in a
special issue of Kybernetika (international journal).
